"It's embarrassing to ask others for things, but where adults can bear with hunger, the children cannot," said Ms. Zhang, mother of two children. Two weeks following Typhoon Morakot, World Vision continued to bring aid to Wen-Fong Village of Jiatung Township, Pintung County by delivering baby formula, diapers, instant noodles, towels and tissue paper. After raging flood breached the dikes of the Linbian River, most houses in the village were flooded up to the second floor. To make matters worse, villagers were unable to receive any external aid in the first few days due to its remote location. The only available means of escape was taking bamboo rafts to pass flooded areas. Even as the waters receded, the village remained inaccessible to basic necessities as it was far from the temporary shelters, and villagers had lost all their transportation means. Having lost her home and fishpond built with a loan of over one million NT dollars, Ms. Zhang had only a small wish now - to cook a meal in her own kitchen - but without soy sauce and cooking oil, it is difficult to realize the wish. Five-year-old Xiao-Bao came with her mother to the distribution point. When asked what she desired to eat now, she replied in a low voice, "meat." Her little brother Xiao-Fong held tightly a can of baby formula that he had just received. As World Vision's aid supplies reached the village, it was much more than just immediate relief to the villagers. It also meant they were not forgotten. ..................................................................................................................................................
