Domestic Ministry
World
Vision Taiwan has now become one of the largest and widely-known non-government organizations in Taiwan. Its domestic ministry includes 47 service projects that encompass the main island of Taiwan, as well as the offshore islands of Orchid Island and the Penghu County. In order to promote and develop its ministries, World Vision Taiwan had its offices located in five major areas in Taiwan, namely, Northern, Western, Central, Southern and Eastern Taiwan, as well as the Taipei head office. The breadth of World Vision Taiwan's domestic ministry is a characteristic seldom observed in other support offices.
The
ministry of World Vision Taiwan, in the last forty years, has mainly served indigenous people, concentrated on remote mountainous regions of Taiwan, and poor coastal communities or in the offshore islands. Early on, because indigenous people were relatively few in number and they mostly lived in areas not readily accessible to regular transportation, with the result that it was difficult for social services to reach them, they were unable to receive the welfare benefits to which they were entitled. In these last forty years, World Vision Taiwan has become very well known for its child sponsorship programs, which have helped the indigenous children in the remote areas of Taiwan. Of course, in order to respond to the rapid transformation taking place in Taiwanese society as well as the increased complexity of Taiwan social problems, in the last ten or twenty years, World Vision Taiwan has spread its ministry from these remote areas to the cities, to encompass indigenous people living in urban areas, as well as providing services for abused children, and making child protection services available to young girls.
