Yu is a fourth grader whose unemployed father is often drunk at home. Her grandmother has little education and cannot help her with her homework. Still, her grades are top of her class because she likes to go to the Children’s Center supported by World Vision Taiwan to study. The tutor there not only teaches her Math, English and her native language, but also plays baseball with her and the other students.
Children’s Centers in remote areas are designed to be learning centers where children in tribes can read, get tutoring and learn different skills like computer, life education and talent training. They can also serve as community centers for residents of the community.

A little help supports a child’s learning
In many schools in remote areas there are no desks and chairs in the classrooms. At these schools, children must sit on the ground when they are in class. In DR Congo, young learners at one particular elementary school had the opportunity to learn in a new classroom equipped with desks and chairs supported by World Vision Taiwan. Wishing they too were so lucky, students in higher grades who could not have their class in the new classroom began to cry.
